Welcome to My Personal Page
On October 23, 2018, Nicole and I experienced a life changing event. That day while out on a mountain bike ride, I went over the handlebars and broke my neck and back.
It was also that day where my faith was challenged but reaffirmed as I laid and waited for someone to find me to get help for me. I’m happy to say that I was found by caring people who helped get me to a hospital where I could be treated and start my recovery. After sitting in the ICU for seven days I was transferred to Craig Hospital in Denver to start my rehabilitation.
I arrived at Craig on October 30. During rehabilitation we focused on just making our life as normal as possible. I was completely paralyzed with the exception of my arms which moved up and down.
During those early days, Nicole and I learned just how good our family and friends were. The support network we had, kicked into high gear and everything we needed was taken care of.
By early December, my legs started to move and the therapists at Craig started to work to get me upright. We also started to see movement in my left hand which gave me more functionality and the ability to communicate better.
After completing 14 weeks of rehabilitation, we headed home for good. I’m now walking with a walker and crutches full-time. My left hand will now open completely and I’m achieving more functionality with it every day. My right hand is starting to come back but it is a very slow process. We continue therapy with both hands and look to continue to build strength to get back to normal functionality.
This whole journey has confirmed for Nicole and I how lucky and thankful we are we are. We sincerely appreciate all the support that we’ve been getting over the last many months but the challenge is not over. We still have a lot of work to do and it is our faith and determination that will continue to drive us.
We now want to give back to Craig. Craig is a nonprofit hospital and needs supplemental funding to help them run some of their programs. Those of you that know me, know that I love riding bikes. In September, they will be having a charity ride north of Denver. Nicole and I plan on riding 50 km in support of Craig. We would like to ask you to help support Craig for everything they do for the brain and spinal cord injured around the country. Any donation would be appreciated. We are hoping to raise at least $2500.
