Welcome to Tom's P4P page! I'm riding for a reason!
On the night of August 5, 2015, while commuting home by bicycle in Denver, I was stuck from behind by a speeding motorcycle. The result was a severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) with subdural bleeding, and multiple fractures. I was hospitalized for two months of treatment and rehabilitation. While I have no memory of the first several days of emergency treatment, I feel very fortunate to recall ALL of my time in rehabilitation at Craig Hospital.
This facility, and its doctors, nurses, therapists, and the TREC staff and volunteers, perform incredibly valuable and supportive work for those of us trying to recover from brain and spinal injuries. I was a beneficiary of many, many hours of dedicated work and assistance at Craig, and I am strongly committed to promoting the hospital, its services, its employees, and Craig's role in my recovery community. These people and this organization help us reintegrate with our families, and our friends. They help us learn new ways of doing things, so we can return to our lives, and perhaps to our careers- or to be inspired to new ones. Recovery is not over yet for me. TBI recovery continues for years typically, and I continue to make very noticeable improvements each month.
I am lucky to have recovered enough to return to riding my bikes again. I hope you will consider contributing to my fund-raising and awareness-raising effort with Pedal 4 Possible. I will be riding a "metric" century (100 km) in the Louisville/Boulder area on June 18. Any contributions or encouraging support are very much appreciated. And if you are able to join me for a ride- then or ANY time, I'd enjoy seeing you.
