Welcome to my P4P page! I'm riding for a reason!
Shawn Marshall is my good friend Elmer's son. Early in November, 2016, he was vacationing in Thailand and was involved in a motorbike accident that left him with a brain injury and spinal cord damage resulting in paralysis from the chest down. He spent approximately 5 1/2 months in hospitals, 2 months at Craig Hospital. Craig Hospital was by far and away his best experience as far as medical care and rehabilatation are concerned. Because of that, Elmer decided to create a team ("Team Shawn") and join in the effort to raise money for Craig Hospital with the idea of giving back in a small way some of that which was given to Shawn. Shawn has commited to ride a hand bike for the 50 KM route. That will be quite an accomplishment considering 5 months ago, he had to be turned from side to side because he didn't have enough strength to do it himself.
As you know, I'm riding in Pedal 4 Possible on September 16th to support Craig Hospital. I would love for you to get involved! You can join me in riding (register at pedal4possible.org) and/or make a donation to help patients with spinal cord and traumatic brain injury redefine possible.
Craig Hospital is a special place and, if you've ever interacted with a grad or been to the campus, you know this is true. Craig goes above and beyond the typical rehabilitation therapies to meet each need of a patient and give them the tools and resource necessary to acheive independence following an injury. Programs like adaptive driving, therapeutic recreation, assistive technology, the school program, and patient and family services are just a few of the extra offerings that Craig Hospital has, and these are most often not covered by insurance. This is where you can help.
